Named to honot the Roman dictator Julius Caesar (100 BC-44 BC). In 46 BC Julius Caesar made one of his greatest contributions to history with the help of Sosigenes, wh developed the Julian calendar, the precursor to the Gregorian calendar we use today.
Julius, month of Julius Ceasar; before him it was called Quintilis, the fifth month.
