SpaceWeather has a brief article today about how observers in Norway detected the passage of a solar wind gust on 18Aug08 UTC by watching the earth’s magnetic flux. I have built a solar wind indicator that would do this but have never gotten it completed to the point that I have tested it and wasn’t looking at it at the time the gust passed by.
